S teven W. Spandle Architect specializes in residential design and has projects throughout the United States. The firm has undertaken a diverse array of commissions, ranging from single-family homes to Manhattan penthouses, as well as historic restorations and museum renovations.

Founding Principal Steven Spandle is a well-versed practitioner of classical design whose life-long fascination with architecture and art began with childhood visits to museums and historic houses. Knowledgeable of traditions over time, he and his team draw inspiration from historic precedents to imbue residential projects with a sense of beauty, comfort, and livability. Collaborating with other professionals, including designers, contractors, landscape architects, and traditional artisans, the firm works closely with clients to create spaces and structures that truly resonate with their preferences and desires.

“Close relationships with our clients and project team members are crucial to our architectural practice,” notes Steven. “We design with the client’s lifestyle at the center of discussions, and our work directly reflects their desire to engage with classically inspired interiors for modern living.”

Steven is a graduate of the architecture program at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the recipient of a Master of Classical Architecture from the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture. Before opening his practice in 2015, Steven worked with nationally recognized architectural firms in Atlanta, Boston, and New York.

He is a former member of the U. S. Commission of Fine Arts, and he is the architect of the Tennis Pavilion, the first free-standing addition to the White House grounds in decades. His work on the project was featured in the White House Historical Association’s video podcast, “White House: Next-Gen Designers.” From 2017 to 2021, he contributed to various restoration projects at the White House and the Presidential retreat at Camp David in Maryland.

Steven’s love and knowledge of the fine and decorative arts and his active contributions to the arts bring a unique perspective to his architectural practice. Steven served two terms as a board member of the American Friends of Attingham where he remains on the program committee. He is an active member of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art and a member of the Connoisseur Society at George Washington’s Mount Vernon; the Collector’s Circle at the Winterthur Museum, Library, and Garden; and the Friends of the Collections at Colonial Williamsburg. Steven was Co-Chair of the Young Artists and Professionals Exhibition for the ICAA’s 2023 National Conference in Charleston, SC. He was a featured speaker on the 2023 TEFAF/NEW YORK panel titled “The Future of Classicism” and on the 2024 Winter Show panel titled, “Americana is Now: Four Perspectives on Collecting.” He is licensed to practice architecture in AZ, CT, DC, FL, GA, ME, MI, NJ, NY, NC, SC, TX, VA, and WI.
